We were tasked with locating a leak of 72 litres per hour on a 25mm mdpe water supply pipe between the meter and the house. The supply pipe was around 40m in length. There was no leak noise at the internal stop tap and minimal leak noise at the meter. We removed the meter temporarily then adapted it for gas insertion. We commenced the gas insertion and eventually the gas had reached the leak. The customer knew the approximate route of the pipe so we surveyed along its route and eventually we had a positive indication of the leak under the tarmac driveway approximately 6m from the meter. The leak location corresponds with the position of a previous repair so it is suspected that the repair may have failed.
