We were contacted and advised that there was a leak of around 12m3/hour taking place at the Wholesale Fruit Market there were no visible signs of it anywhere. The team carried out acoustic leak detection by working systematically from one fitting to another around the site. There were 3 fittings that contained significant leak noise so we used radiodetection equipment to trace the route of the pipework between the three fittings of concern. Once the pipe route was confirmed, we surveyed the mains using the Echologics Leakfinder. The system gave a textbook, visual peak indicating the leak position and our follow up survey confirmed the leak position within 1m of the displayed peak measurement. The repairs team then attended the following day and exposed and repaired a 6″ diameter cast iron water main. Once repaired, the meter was observed to have stopped running indicating no further leakage present.
